This is a record of the sensational time we had with the "Chicks R Us" crew in Term 3 2010.
We Are Very Eggcited!!
We Are Very Eggcited!!
The Chicks R US team deliver our 12 beautiful eggs this week. We will keep you posted as they hatch and GROW!!!
Here is Debbie from Chicks R Us. She gave us lots of information as she set up the incubator and carefully placed in the 12 eggs. She even gave us 3 chicks that had hatched while she ate breakfast.
As we left for the day, one of the eggs had a crack in it. We could hear the chick peeping and tapping from inside. I guess we will meet our new friend in the morning.

Our new little friend was there to greet us this morning. A lovely black chick all dried off, ready for the day. Our older chicks ventured into the light box.
Light box chicks |
We noticed another egg with a small hole before school. It hatched at 4pm, just after school ended. Never mind - we got it on video. Maybe next chick will hatch during school time!
See the Stage 2 'Home' page to see the video.
Less than a minute old |
Overnight 2 more chicks hatched. They are all fine, just very tired. You can see some other eggs with chicks on their way out. We were lucky that the athletics carnival was postponed today because we saw two more hatch, finally during the day! Mrs Duncan caught the whole thing on film.
This little chick hatched at 2:55pm. We now have only 3 to go.

No activity today. We still have 3 eggs remaining. Our 12 chicks are very happy and healthy. Some are beginning to grow feathers. We were shocked to find that all food was gone this morning. Their food was quickly restocked. Mrs Duncan is going to "chicken sit" over the weekend. I hope they are not too noisy.
We had a beautiful day for our athletics carnival today, so we enjoyed the sunshine. Mrs Duncan bought back the chicks and boy have they grown! Some have begun to grow their feathers too.
We also have some sad news. The final 3 eggs did not hatch. We are sad about that but understand that sometimes things don't go to plan.
Wednesday 11th August
We had some fun today creating obstacle courses for the chicks to walk around. Take a look!
Thursday, 12th August.
Well today we had our last cuddles as we prepare for the chicks to go to their new homes tomorrow. Some lucky students have purchased the chicks to raise at home. Year 2 made some beautiful photo collages to remember the whole Chicks R Us experience.
Friday, 13th August
All equipment was picked up today and all chickens went to their new homes. It was so lucky that more chicks were in the pick up van as we sold many of those too! Everyone who is associated with Chicks R Us is happy and friendly. We cannot wait to hear all those stories about how our chickens are going.
